Clavier Propre à la Mode

Your results may vary, and we can't be responsible for failures, but we have made this item on several occasions ourselves, each time with spectacularly sparkling results.

  1. Preparation
    • Dishwasher
      • Make sure the dishwasher is clean and empty. (Did I really need to say that?)
      • Disable heat-dry, auto-temp, and any other heat-producing features.
      • If possible, set to warm rather than hot water.
      • Load a very small amount of liquid dishwashing (not dishwasher) detergent.
    • Oven
      • Make sure the oven is clean and empty.
      • Preheat to 65°C (150°F).
      • If it's electric, you might want to place baking sheets on the racks above and below where the keyboard will go. (i.e. having a glowing red element near a keyboard is not a good thing.)
    • Keyboard
      • Remove obvious dirt with cloth and vacuum cleaner.
      • Disconnect (or coil and twist-tie) the cord.
  2. Cooking
    • Place the keyboard, upside down, on the top rack of the diswasher.
    • Run on gentle cycle.
    • When you hear the dishwasher filling with water, if it didn't have a warm-water setting, add a litre or so of cold water, and let it continue.
    • When it enters the dry cycle:
      • Stop it and remove the keyboard.
      • Rinse under a tap, and shake well, holding the keyboard in various orientations.
    • Repeat all this again, but on rinse-cycle only, and without detergent.
    • Shake as much water as possible out of the keyboard. If you can still hear sloshing, it's not ready yet.
  3. Baking
    • Make sure that the oven has been preheated.
    • Bake for about 2 hours.
  4. Presentation
    • Remove from oven, cool, and serve.
    • Do not top with ice-cream.
